Talented college student spruces up supermarket

Students from Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) were recently approached by Sainsbury’s Newcastle-under-Lyme store to commission students to produce art work.

Students from the Foundation degree (Fd) in Graphics and Digital Design and Foundation degree (Fd) in Digital Media Production were given the brief to produce a large piece of art work that would be permanently displayed within the staff training room.  The room is used to train all staff from shop floor to management.  The previous store manager Anthony Clegg wanted the art work ‘to inspire staff’, with a focus on people and work ethic.

Around 25 students submitted designs to store manager Anthony Clegg, with only one being selected. Talented Craig Hancock from the Foundation degree (Fd) in Graphics and Digital Design created the winning design.  Craig went on to produce the 8 square metre work and mounted the artwork in the store himself.  The winning artwork has now been displayed at the new Liverpool Road store.
